It can become problematic for paediatricians in acute care balancing parental expectations and not missing sinister causes. In addition, ordering unnecessary tests can be expensive, can lead to a prolonged hospital stay and unnecessary referrals to clinics. The aim of this review is to give an overview of the common causes of chest pain in children and how to identify cardiac causes using case vignettes.
