At the same time, the neonatal neurological exam is a useful tool in identifying babies needing closer evaluation for potential problems. The Dubowitz assessment is a standardised approach to the neonatal neurological exam designed for use by paediatricians in routine practice. Evidence has validated this technique and delineated its utility as a screening exam in various populations. This paper reviews clinical application of the Dubowitz assessment of the newborn.
