It is usually benign and self-limiting. Toe walking can be a presenting sign of some serious underlying disorders and idiopathic toe walking is a diagnosis of exclusion. Persistent toe walking can lead to limited ankle dorsiflexion which may cause functional problems. Specific interventions depend on underlying cause and may range from verbal reinforcement to serial casting and surgery.
