The American Academy of Pediatrics published a guideline in 2018 on the diagnosis and management of gastro-oesophageal reflux (GER) in preterm infants.1 The authors highlight that practices in this field are highly variable across neonatal units,2 which is further exacerbated by a lack of good quality study data. Their recommendations take into consideration emerging safety and efficacy concerns of both non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatments for GER in preterm infants.
