Cognitive development of the children of mothers with epilepsy

The cognitive development of the children born to mothers with epilepsy may be affected by intrauterine hypoxia caused by maternal seizures, the teratogenicity of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs), social and family factors associated with chronic maternal illness, and possibly genetic factors.
