| Bilateral pulmonary infiltrates on chest x-ray |
| Pulmonary capillary wedge pressure <18 mm Hg or no clinical suspicion of raised left atrial pressure |
| PaO2/FiO2 <300 = ALI |
| PaO2/FiO2 <200 = ARDS |
